Social Development

This closely meshes with the social-emotional development. Social-development involves the ability to start and maintain positive relationships, experience and manage emotions, and explore the environment. (Learning and Development, week 7, 2015) Well-established social-emotional skills within children tend to be more confident, and succeed in school.

Technology can be categorized into Bloom's taxonomy (Week 6). Facebook, is at the creating category, while Google and Wikipedia are at the remembering and understanding categories. Facebook is the most frequently used platform followed by Instagram (Lenhart, 2015). The users tend to have the most friends. This suggests that they have more higher-order critical thinking than the users in other social networks. Surprisingly, income levels tend to be associated with a person with multiple accounts. Higher-income youth also are less likely to use Facebook, opting instead for Twitter. This may suggest that owning multiple accounts allows for the most optimal critical thinking, as most of the categories of Bloom's taxonomy will be established by the child.

  • Have an icebreaker activity at the start of the year

  • Have students create name tags with a drawing of their favourite item. Peers can get to know and improve relations.
